I want to thank the Mineola American for printing Jack Garland’s wonderful column, “Mineola Memories – This Song’s For Mr. Gannon” about Chris Gannon, who recently passed away. As the former editor of the Mineola American, I had the opportunity to know Mr. Gannon, who would come to the office of Anton Community Newspapers from time to time to drop of photos from the Albertson VFW Post #5253.
Mr. Gannon could also been seen in village hall for various meetings of the Mineola Leisure Club and Golden Age Club, two fine organizations of which he was a member. He always had a smile on his face and exuded a pleasant demeanor. It would be difficult to find a person who conducted himself with more class than this fine gentleman.
Thank you Jack Garland and the Mineola American for helping us say farewell to such a gentle soul, loving family man, friend and noble veteran who bravely served his country.
