I would like to express my views and opinions on the Mineola Public Library. I have lived in Mineola for over 10 years and own a business in town as well. However, it was not until a year ago that I was introduced to the library by a girlfriends’ two teenage daughters – both self proclaimed “bookworms.” Upon first entering the library I thought it was very nice, but when I was given the full tour I was truly impressed. Back when I was in school, I spent many a day in a library researching through encyclopedias (they didn’t have Google back then); I even used to go into Manhattan and spend the whole day in the main library. But this library was bright, clean, organized and very well staffed by friendly and knowledgeable folks. I was home again.
Then I noticed that in addition to the books, there were music CDs as well as movies. This was like a library with a CD store and Blockbuster all in one. All it now needs is a coffee shop and I’m moving in. I honestly have to say, that the Mineola library truly is one of the most valuable resources in our town and needs to be publicized more. I truly enjoy the collection of movies and have introduced the girls to TV shows that were on when I was growing up (such as Mission Impossible and King Fu) which they now love.
This library should be not only utilized by the whole town but also treasured. I just wish I had more free time to spend there. One suggestion I have is to alter the hours of operations and add a few “late” days and extend the weekend hours for folks like me who work during the day and also for children who go to school. And by the way, I am now the proud holder of my own Mineola library card.
