Editor’s Note: Lou Sanders, who has his journalism degree from NYU, and his wife, Grace, founded the Mineola American in 1952, giving the village its first successful newspaper. Lou and Grace have lived in Mineola for 59 years, and his popular column is a signature feature of this paper.

Fifty great years is the way John Carroll describes his marriage to Patricia; the two marked their anniversary May 4. The happy couple lives on Banberry Road and celebrated the occasion at a local Italian restaurant, following a Mass at Corpus Christi Church. At the party were their children, grandchildren, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, nieces and nephews. John is active in the Irish American Society and is a member of the Mineola Chamber of Commerce.
