Around The Town With Lou

Editor’s Note: Lou Sanders, who has his journalism degree from NYU, and his wife, Grace, a graduate of Adelphi, founded the Mineola American in 1952, giving the village its first successful newspaper. Lou and Grace, a graduate of Adelphi University, have lived in Mineola for 60 years, and his popular column is a signature feature of this paper.

 

The local Republican club had a dinner honoring the late John DaVanzo, State Senator Jack Martins and businessman Tony Lubrano. At the affair, we saw Robert Rosenthal, Walter Hobbs, Carmine Festa, Joyce Gorycki, Dolores Mangold, Linda Doerrbecker, Gabe Parajos, Terrence and Dorothy Timlin, Joe Scalero, Dennis Walsh, Tony, Nancy, Steven, Alyssa, and Raffaelo Lubrano, Paula Martins, Yuri Karasz, John Carway, Legislator Rich Nicolello, Kaitlin, Vanessa, Emma and Caroline Martins, Paul Ehrlich, Bill Greene, Richard Maher, Russ Sutherland, Michael Vezzi, Edward Hajduk, Judy and Mary Davanzo, Jack and Karen Gayson, Leslie Gross, Janet Wohlars, Regis Gallet, Scott Diamond, Antonio and Gloria Martins, Vanessa Martins-Perri and Vincent Conti.

Corpus Christi Pastor Msgr. Robert Batule, spoke on the significance of the positive pronoun, “our” as in Our Father who art … the word is so inclusive, meaning all of mankind. He also spoke of his Irish roots.

Maryann, Robert and Courtney Cabo have lived on Marcellus Road for 23 years. Robert is in the insurance business.

Peggy May is on the staff of Carolyn McCarthy and thus big in the Democratic Party. Her husband, Paul, is a faithful member of the Republican Club. The one thing they can really agree on is the love of

their three grandchildren.

Kevin Thomas of K’s Auto at 74 Willis Avenue has been taking care of the automotive needs of Mineola and vicinity for 45 years. Batteries, tires, brakes, alternators, inspections, insurance photos and general repairs is the reason why his shop is always busy. Kevin and Gail live on Latham Road.

The Cuttin’ Club on Hillside Avenue near the iHop has been serving Mineola, the Willistons, New Hyde Park, Albertson and Westbury for 29 years. Owner Laura and hair stylists Pat, Maggie and Janet and the shampoo girl are always busy. Laura says their slogan is, “We are an all-family service salon.”
