The first meeting of the Mineola Mustang Run/Walk will be held on Sunday, Aug. 9 at 6 p.m. in the Mineola Village Hall Community Center. The meeting will be held to discuss the upcoming Mustang Run, which will be held in November. This will be the final year the Mustang Run will be held and the committee is determined to make it the best ever.
Volunteers are needed to help put out 2,500 mailings to potential sponsors to raise money for this event. In the run’s 24-year history, thousands of dollars have been raised with proceeds going to many organizations in the village. This year, a major effort will be made to raise a record amount of money. The proceeds will go to the Mineola Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Mineola Fire Department for special life-saving equipment, Mineola Athletic Association, Mineola Police Athletic League (PAL), Mineola Historical Society, Mineola Youth and Family Services, Cancer Center for Kids at Winthrop-University Hospital, Parent and Child Education Program, Inc. (PACE) and the Mineola Auxiliary Police. Special donations will also be made to the Mineola Junior Fire Department, Wounded Warriors Project and the American Cancer Society.
Anybody wanting to be a sponsor should contact Linda Fairgrieve at 294-5914. All sponsors’ names will appear on 2,100 special commemorative shirts, in 6,000 journals that will be distributed throughout Mineola and to each of 1,500 runners and walkers expected to participate and in newspaper articles.
All persons are invited to attend this meeting. Please contact Linda Fairgrieve for further information.
