Congratulations to the Lusitano Soccer Club for winning the Long Island Soccer Football League (LISFL) Super Cup, making Lusitano the top ranked amateur soccer team on Long Island and one of the top ten in New York State.
Lusitano, Mineola’s top flight amateur soccer team, won the LISFL Cangero Super Cup in an one of the most exciting finals in league history against Forest Park.
Lusitano punched their ticket to the Long Island Super Cup Finals in June when they won the Long Island Division I LISFL Championship. Forest Park also gained its invitation by winning the league cup in June.
With Lusitano leading 4-0 at the half, the team allowed four unanswered goals by Forest Park. The game would have to be decided by penalty kicks. The Mineola club came away with a 4-3 penalty kick victory to take home their fifth trophy of the season. Lusitano also won the League Sportsmanship Trophy, Long Island Division I Championship, Long Island Division I East Championship and earned runner-up honors in the ENYSSA New York State Manning Cup.
The Lusitano Soccer Club would like to thank Director of Futebol Operations Jack DaFonte and General Manager/Head Coach Marco DaFonte as well as its 2008/2009 sponsors — WMT Brick & Stone and Automotive Headquarters — for all their support this season.
