Senior Captain Fred Lang is one of the most accomplished and hardest working individuals ever to come through the ranks of the Mineola Track and Field program. His unyielding dedication has resulted in a tremendously impressive career with All Division, All Conference, and All County honors throughout his four years at Mineola.
Lang has nearly perfect attendance at practice, and treats every race like a championship event. He is one of the toughest athletes out there, refusing to give up when competitors challenge him.
Countless times during his career he has fought and won a race in the last 100 meters or came from behind in the last leg of a relay to secure a victory.
He is being highly sought after to compete on the collegiate level and looks forward to continuing his legacy after he leaves Mineola. It has been inspirational watching him run over the past few years.
Lang’s teammates look up to him for his dedication to his craft as well as his talent. Freddy has proudly been the face of Mineola XC/Track & Field for the last four years. He’s given Mineola the reputation of having a legitimate distance running program.
Lang holds school records in 4 and 5K runs. He is Mineola’s leading man in winter 4x800m and 3200m relays with times of 8:33 and 10:12 respectively. He also holds spring records in those distances with times of 8:32 and 10:16 as well as the 3000m-steeple chase record of 9:55.
A standout on the clay, he was All-Division in cross-country and All-County in spring track in ninth-grade. He also garnered those honors, as well as All-Conference in cross-country track, qualified for States in winter and spring track in 10th-grade.
Lang was named All-Division and All-County in the spring 4x800m relay and 3000m-steeple chase in his sophomore year. In his junior year, he was named conference champion in the 1,000, 1,600 and 3,200m races and qualified for State meets as well as All-Division honors in 400 and 800m hurdles and the 4x800m relay.
Fred was named county champion in the 4x800 relay this year and nabbed top honors in cross-country and winter track.
