The 2013 New York Open TaeKwonDo Championships/Korean Cultural Festival was held on Saturday Oct. 19 at Cantiague Park Ice Rink, West John Street, Hicksville, NY 11801.
U.S. Tae Kwon Do of Mineola took home gold, sivler and bronze medals in form, board-breaking and sparring.
The tournament consisted of competitive sparring, board breaking, and forms as well as a team demo competitions. Modern electronic scoring used for all competitors, and one ring was featured Olympic style scoring. Highlighting this year’s event was the Goodwill Exhibition Games between the national level team from NY facing off against rival Canada.
This event was recognized by the World Taekwondo Federation and sanctioned by the US Taekwondo Leaders Union. Additionally, the event has received the support Nassau County with the first ever “Nassau County Taekwondo Day.”
The event was sponsored by The Korean Cultural Service of NY, AT Center New York, Flushing Savings Bank, Dynamics World and Briarcliffe College.
