The Mineola Mustangs shocked the bowling community as the team defeated Sewanhaka for the first time since Coach Helms Bohringer took over the program.
Sewanhaka is always among the top Nassau County teams and has won the conference the last seven years in a row.
Although the Mustangs lost the first game they rebounded to win the final two. They rolled an 800 team score in game and followed that up with a 760 in the third to seal the victory.
Senior captain John Lusardi started the season off strong with 588 series, just missing 200 average in the three-game set. Sophomore Tony Macchietto, who was All-County last season, rolled a 599 with a high game of 217. Freshman Ryan Sellinger , Juniors William
Andrade and Danny Ferreriera help the Mustangs achieve the much needed victory. Ferreriera had the overall high game of 222.
The Mustangs started slow again on the second day, but bounced back to win the last two games. Leading the way were the Freshmen Ryan Sellinger and Macchietto. Sellinger had a 472 series (high game 175) while Macchietto had a 532 series.
Mineola will face Oyster Bay at Sheridan Lanes on Jericho Turnpike on Wednesday, Dec. 18 at 4 p.m.
