The Corpus Christi girls basketball team is off to a 6-0 start and first place with a two-game lead. This is a pleasant surprise to many as the team is playing in the eighth grade division with only seven eighth graders and five seventh graders. The offense is being directed at point guard by Sarah Rudolph, Marissa Paganelli and Meaghan Carr. The low post scoring is being controlled by Charlotte Renker, Emily Carboine, Ashley Backford, Sabrina Ribiero and Gabrielle Jurksas. Excellent defense and timely baskets are being provided by Madeline Dee, Marjorie Prophete, Katie Barnwell and Kelly Behan. The team heads into the second half of the season clicking on all cylinders. The girls should be very proud of themselves as two teams from last year were combined into one. The coaches, Colleen Carboine and Tom Renker, are impressed by the way the girls have played so unselfishly since the start of the season. One parent stated, “It looks like they have been playing together all along.”
The excitement is in the air as the girls come back from a two-week hiatus and look forward to continuing where they left off. All 8th grade teams will have to be very aware of the Lady Lions, as they look to roar on to the rest of the season.
