Chiefs Rock Rockville Centre

After losing their first game in over three years, the injury shorthanded Chiefs sixth grade lacrosse team played at home at Hampton Stadium and rocked the Rockville Centre Cyclones 6-3. This brings their 2009 winning record to 6-1.

The Chiefs offense came from midfielders Thomas O’Connell, James Gerstner and Peter McCormack who each scored two goals, while attackman Chris Lockwood recorded three assists. Gerard Boniello, Thomas O’Dwyer and Mark Sarnell passed the ball around the field and out-hustled the Cyclones 27-19 on ground balls. The Chiefs’ attackmen Anthony Sarno, Michael Patalano and Kyle Leinhart kept the heat on the Cyclones goalie throughout the day.

The defense of the Chiefs was all over the place, led by Gavin Dowd, Eric Pacher, Trifon Boniello and Teddy Capsis. Goalie John Clancy was solid in net while making six saves. O’Connell and Gerstner won all six face-offs.

All the boys played and participated in the victory. Other players who contributed in the victory were Dom Paggi, William Berger and Jacob Correia. An injured Brian Smith, Kyle Dunleavy and Jake Connors were on the sidelines, showing their team spirit and rooting on their team to victory.
