The Oyster Bay Historical Society held a reception for its latest exhibition, Tracing Peg: Slavery in Oyster Bay, on Oct. 24. The exhibit was curated by Danielle Apfelbaum as the Society’s contribution to Archives Month, celebrated each October. Ms. Apfelbaum, a master’s candidate in Library and Information Science at C.W. Post’s Palmer School, met with trustees, members, and other interested visitors to talk in detail about her role as curator and to answer questions about her exhibition.Friday, 06 November 2009 00:00

New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation Commissioner Carol Ash is reminding boaters that a new state law that took effect Nov. 1 requires that all boaters on recreational watercraft less than 21 feet in length including motorboats, canoes, kayaks, rowboats and sailboats must wear a personal flotation device (PFD) from Nov. 1 through May 1 on New York waters.

A six race, three-hour duel took place on the bay by the Waterfront Center as local teams vied for the coveted title of champion in the second annual Oyster Festival Regatta on the morning of Saturday, Oct. 24. Fiddleheads Restaurant took the prize in the eight-team competition which included Alex Gallego Group Stifel Nicolaus, Superstar Beverage, Laffey Associates, Global Companies, Mariners Walk and race organizers Oyster Bay Marine Center and Renaissance Property Associates.
