| Continuing the tradition: Fourteen women representing Seawanhaka Corinthian Yacht Club and Cold Spring Harbor Beach Club sharpened their racing skills. |
The women are all participants in the active ladies sailing program which runs every Wednesday throughout the summer on Oyster Bay.
"We were looking for the opportunity to sharpen our skills and enjoy a warm weather getaway," said Janet Hatton of Mill Neck. "Offshore has a wonderful location at South Seas Plantation and a fleet of new boats which made for a really great week."
The four day program included morning classroom sessions followed by morning and afternoon racing sessions aboard the school's fleet of brand new Colgate 26's. The final day consisted of a regatta for prizes and trophies. Weather conditions ranged from brisk 15-20 knot winds the first three days to late summer Long Island Sound type conditions (0-5 knots) for the final day's regatta.
"It was a great week," added Maxine Glenn of Mill Neck. "We worked hard at our racing and thoroughly enjoyed the time away and the chance to get to know each other better. I think we all improved tremendously. Now we can't wait for the racing season to begin."
Race results for the regatta were as follows:
- First Place:
- Janet Hatton, Mill Neck
- Jamie Deming, Oyster Bay
- Maud Robertson, Huntington
- Connie Clephane, Greenwich, CT
- Second Place:
