A tennis program was introduced to the third-grade students at the Roosevelt Elementary School. The sport is fun, easy to learn, and offers healthful benefits.
Thomas Robinson, physical education teacher and varsity tennis coach at Oyster Bay High School, taught a four week unit to the children as part of their physical education program. The United States Tennis Association donated tennis racquets to the school to help get the program started. In addition, the USTA presented a seminar to the staff last September as part of their plan to increase tennis participation in America. Arnold Minkoff, district supervisor of health and physical education said that tennis will be a new addition to the curriculum in the OBEN School District.
