Senior co-captain Meredith LeRoux (East Norwich, Oyster Bay) of the Tufts University field hockey team has been named to the 1999 Astro Turf/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III All-America Third Team.

This marks the second straight season in which LeRoux was recognized as an All-American. She was a first team selection last fall. This season she was previously named to the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) and New England West Region First Teams.

LeRoux was the field general for a young Tufts team that made a run to the ECAC New England Championship Game this season. As the center midfielder, she played excellent defense and distributed the ball well when the Jumbos turned to offense. Though she had just two assists this season, her overall smarts and athleticism on the field earned her All-American honors. She was one of 15 New England players named to the first, second and third teams.

The Jumbos finished 10-7 this fall and earned their sixth straight post-season berth. Head coach Carol Rappoli's team best both Bates and Williams 1-0 in overtime in the ECAC tournament. They were 2-0 losers at Wesleyan in the finals.

LeRoux missed a game after breaking her nose at Wellesley on Sept. 22. The Jumbos lost their next contest at Colby, 2-1 in overtime. She returned and helped Tufts win seven of its next nine.

During 58 career games at Tufts, LeRoux scored three goals with eight assists for 14 points. At Oyster Bay High School in East Norwich, she was an all-conference and all-county player. A biology major, LeRoux has been a member of the dean's list at Tufts.
