Muttontown Police Commissioner Perry Welch reported that at the Dec. 20 Police Commissioner's meeting all villages had approved the proposed new headquarters project to be located on Route 106 in Muttontown.
The Old Brookville Police Department covers Old Brookville, Matinecock, Muttontown, Brookville, Upper Brookville and Mill Neck. The board also approved coverage of the Village of Cove Neck for a two-year trial period.
Mr. Welch said the proper authorities in Albany have said that the coverage may be provided by the OBPD for a non-contiguous village.
Fire Commissioner Burt Spitz said Rob Aasheim was elected as the new East Norwich Fire Chief. Mr. Spitz and Highway Commissioner Raz Tafuro presented an award to Paul Power and Bob Kennedy at the annual ENFD dinner.
Village Attorney Peter MacKinnon was asked to draft a schedule of fines for false fire alarms in an attempt to reduce the number of those calls.
The board is considering leasing a four wheel drive vehicle for Mr. Tafuro's use as the highway commissioner. He said he has worked 46 hours and travelled 692 miles during recent storms that affected the village. He asked and was granted a $500 per month reimbursement for the use of his car and gasoline for December through March.
A meeting will be set in February for the St. Dominic South Campus playing fields in Muttontown. Postcards will be mailed to residents to inform them of the date.
With 124 new building permits issued, the assessed value of the village has gone up $131,100 from the previous year. The board denied a request by the Jericho Water District to waive $5,000 in building permit fees. The board felt it would establish a bad precedent for the village.
Pen-Mor Farms was granted a tax grievance refund of $10,353.
The next board meeting will be on Feb. 12.
