It's amazing how we get to accept things we don't like, without even realizing it. When we received the rendering of the proposed changes to the Roosevelt Elementary School we were struck by how nice the new plans look.
It was amazing to see how the Roosevelt School really looks while driving down East Main Street. We had been covering the wonderful, marvelous, inspiring, historic parade and events for the Methodist Church Centennial of their cornerstone laying and were going on to the Sagamore Rowing Club Interscholastic Regatta.
It is amazing that we have accepted the Roosevelt School the way it looks today. It kept growing, but didn't get prettier. It is about time the children had a sweet looking school and the community had a public property that you will be willing to point out to visitors.
That is not to say that this is a frivolous need. The reasons behind the proposal are solid and strong. It is about time we put the portables to rest. They have done their job. A defeated budget will just mean more portables.
Let's all bite the bullet and finally finish the project started over a dozen years ago. None of the problems the district faced then about capital improvements to the schools ever went away until we decided to fund the needed repairs and changes.
Let's pass the budget and get over the hurdle and give the sweet children a great school and a great school district to grow up in with pride.
