March 29 marked the end of the third season of girls's intramural basketball at the Boys & Girls Club of Oyster Bay-East Norwich. The playoffs were full of excitement. In each game, the teams scores were close down to the final minutes.
Ultimately, the Sparks were crowned the champs for the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade division and the Bruins for the 4th and 5th grade division. The coaches voted for recipients of the most valuable player and sportsmanship awards. In the 6th, 7th and 8th grade division, Lisa McEvoy won the MVP award and Keryn Meierdierks won the sportsmanship award. In the 4th and 5th grade division, Grace Bilello won the MVP award and Kristine Falcone won the sportsmanship award.
On March 30, the members of the Boys & Girls Club participated in a Fitness Authority Challenge. This challenge was sponsored nationally by the Sports Authority with the hopes of helping children incorporate fitness into their every day lives. The members competed in a series of events; lateral hops, standing vertical jumps, push-ups and jumping rope. The children had fun competing against other boys and girls of their age and gender. Each participant received a certification of participation.
Spring sports programs are underway. There is an exciting calendar of events planned, such as roller hockey and volleyball for 4th and 8th grades, full court and 3 vs. 3 basketball for 9th-12th grades, and a variety of daily age-appropriate recreation activities for 4th-6th grades.
