Hearing Steve Torborg's voice on Friday, July 27, you could hear the sound of joy. It was contained joy, he and his group, have had lots of ups followed by long slides down, as they worked to save Locomotive #35 and move it to Oyster Bay. There were small threads of doubt - that there might be another glitch. Still, he was optimistic that all would turn out well on Aug. 2.

Steve Torborg is the president of the Friends of Locomotive #35. He and his group of volunteers, including Gary Farkash who was his co-chair for some time, and Oyster Bay's Ben Jankowski and volunteer Cathy Manning Torborg - all deserve our admiration - as do all their volunteers. They have done a wonderful job working to save railroad history.

Oyster Bay will be all the richer when it arrives and when the railroad museum opens. There is more to be done, more to make their dreams come true, but today, is the time for them to sit back and enjoy the fruits of their labor.

They have done a wonderful job.

We thank them on behalf of the community.

We salute them on behalf of railroad fans everywhere!
