How Well Do You Know the Area? Do you know where this week's picture was taken? If you do, call the Enterprise-Pilot at 747-8282 and let us know. If you have a picture that you think might be interesting for others to guess, drop it off in our box at Village Camera, 128 South Street, Oyster Bay.

This week's photo was a good choice. The calls came in hot and heavy!

Billy Minicozzi said, "The mystery photo is the parking lot on White Street by Nino's pizzeria in Oyster Bay." On a sports note he said, "Good luck to the Giants. Maybe they will go back to the superbowl. If they stick together they should be able to win it this year." He also congratulated David Duval for winning the British open last week. He hoped for great weather for the Bayville Firemen's Picnic. By the way, Billy's birthday is Aug. 18. Happy Birthday Billie!

Bill Landers of East Norwich called to identify the photo as "The town parking lot off White's Street. It's the rear of Uwe's and across the road is DaRosa Liquors."

Ron Traub of Weintraub and Traub called to say, "It's the parking lot behind East Main Street with entrances on South Street and White Street." Right!

Katie and Gloria called to say, "It's the back of the municipal parking lot next to Doubleday Babcock Senior Center and behind the East Main Street Bar and the Launderette!"

Ron MacKenzie of Cove Point Realty said, "It is the East Main Street parking lot facing the back of Uwe's, behind Nino's. A lot of people don't even know you can park back there. A lot of people don't know they've fixed it up."

Bob Walsh, former Oyster Bay postmaster called to identify the mystery picture from last week. He now lives in Ocala, Florida and subscribes to the Pilot and enjoys reading it. He said, "The July 19 picture is of St. Dominic's. I played basketball there and graduated in 1956.

"I certainly played a lot of basketball there. I recognized the big windows in the photograph."

Mr. Walsh's son John is on the board of the Oyster Bay Civic Association. "I also know John DeJesu, although I live central Florida."

Jonathan Wulforst of East Norwich called to say the picture was near the train station, where you get the schedules." It was a good guess.

He must have been a lot nearer the truth than we realized because the next caller had the same idea!

Ida Echavelli of Bayville said, "It's Maxwell Avenue and Railroad Avenue and it's the parking lot with the rail road station. The old rail road station moved up.

"I used to visit Ida's Folly across the way from this place."

You remember Ida's Folly, it was the place for sailors coming into Oyster Bay Harbor to visit. Ida had life preservers from an international crew of visitors adorning the walls of her establishment. Today the spot is known as Railz.

Have a good week and please call in and leave your mystery picture guesses and we will print them in the August 16 issue of the Oyster Bay Enterprise Pilot. The editor is on vacation.
