Erin Egan, senior forward, for the Red Dragons at SUNY Cortland, and an Oyster Bay High School graduate, has been named the SUNY Cortland Athlete of the Week, along with senior high jumper Mark Mirabito for the period Dec. 3 to 11. Ms. Egan was named the SUNYAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week after averaging 20 points, 8.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.5 steals per game in wins over Brockport and Fredonia. She also added 16 points and 11 rebounds in a loss at Ithaca on Dec. 11 in the game that ended 64-59.
Erin Egan was also named the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) women's basketball Player of the Week ending Dec. 9. Ms. Egan, also earned a spot on the ECAC Upstate New York Division III weekly honor roll, because she averaged 20 points, 8.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.5 steals per game in two Red Dragon victories during the week. On Tuesday, Dec. 4, she recorded 20 points, eight rebounds, four assists, three steals and two blocked shots in a 64-56 win versus Brockport. On Friday, Dec. 7, she scored 20 points, grabbed nine rebounds, dished out five assists and made two steals in a 75-58 victory at Fredonia. For the week, Egan shot 70 percent from the floor (14 -of- 20), including 58 percent from three-point range (7 of 12).
Her sister Kristen Egan, freshman at SUNY Cortland, and an Oyster Bay High School graduate registered five points, four assists, six steals and five rebounds in the Dec. 11 game against Ithaca that ended with a score of 64-59 in favor of Ithaca. Her sister, Erin Egan, a senior led the Red Dragons with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
In the Dec. 7 game against Fredonia that ended Cortland 75, Fredonia 58, senior Erin Egan made all five of her second-half field goal attempts and finished with a game-high 20 points. Erin Egan finished the game 7-of-10 from the floor, including 4 - of- 6 from three-point range. She also grabbed nine rebounds and dished out five assists. She was one of five Red Dragons who scored in double-figures.
In the same Dec. 7 game, freshman Kristen Egan registered five assists and two steals.
In the Dec. 4 game senior Erin Egan scored 20 points in the second half as Cortland won its SUNYAC opener over visiting Brockport 64-56. Cortland never trailed in the game, but led by only three points (57-54) after Brockport went on an 8-1 run from the 5:15 mark to the 2:22 mark. Noelle Picone's layup, off an Erin Egan pass, upped the lead to 59-54 with 1:28 left and Brockport did not get any closer. In addition to her team-leading point total, Erin also finished the game with eight rebounds, four assists, three steals and two blocked shots. The Red Dragons shot 45 percent from the floor, including 50 percent in the second half, and held Brockport to 33 percent shooting.
