On Saturday, Jan. 24, Little League Baseball will begin its second season in Oyster Bay starting once again with its popular Winter Clinics. Boys and girls from ages 5-12 are eligible to participate at the three Winter Clinics to be held on three Saturdays, Jan. 24, 31 and Feb. 14, at the Oyster Bay High School gymnasium. "We ran these clinics last year and the response was overwhelming!" said newly elected president of the Oyster Bay League Phil Robinson. "There were about 325 children who participated last year and based on the feedback we received, we had to schedule the sessions again for the new season."
The schedule for each of the three clinics is as follows: ages 5-6 from 2:30-3:30 p.m. ("T" Ball); ages 7-9 from 3:30-4:30 p.m. (International Division & Minor League); ages 10-12 from 4:30-6 p.m. (Major League). Each child is placed in a division based on age and ability. If you are unsure about which division your child should attend, you are invited to bring them to the earlier session the first week and based on an evaluation, they would stay for the following session as well.
Registration for the upcoming spring season is also being held during the clinics. The registration form can be picked up at the Winter Clinics or can be printed via the league's website at www.mylocalteam.com. The registration fees are $75 for "T" Ball (ages 5-6 and $95 for international, minor and major league players (ages 7-12).
In addition, a newly created Girls Softball Division is also being established for girls (age 9-12) along with a Little League "Juniors" Division for boys and girls (ages 13-14). If you have a son or daughter interested in participating in either one of these new divisions, please contact the league by e-mail at www.mylocalteam.com or at their hotline number, 628-2555.
