Celebrating a decade of memorable performances beginning with Anything Goes to last year's Camelot, East Woods School's Yellow Cote Players will present "Cavalcade of Fun" this coming weekend, Feb. 6 and 7. The school's adult theatre group, made up of present and past parents and teachers, took its name from the school's location on Yellow Cote Road in Oyster Bay. The now 40-member group was the brainchild of longtime Oyster Bay resident Robin Senior who remains a key member of the troupe.

Produced by longtime member Rosemary Miller, "Cavalcade of Fun" is an original production written by Academy Award nominated screenwriter, playwright and most importantly, East Woods parent, Kevin Wade. It is a golden radio days comedy featuring foot tapping, finger snapping jazz standards of the 1930s and '40s. Donna Harrison is the director for the tenth year running.

Once again set designer Margie Howe and her loyal backstage crew will work their magic and plan to transform the school gym into a cabaret. Keeping everyone in line year after year is school staffer/stage manager Chris Maloney.

Headmaster Dr. Nathaniel Peirce, moving from stagehand last year to an onstage performer in Cavalcade, sums it up best. "Yellow Cote Players epitomizes what East Woods is all about; the school community is a family which doesn't end when your children graduate. Margie Howe's children, and now her grandchild attends the school. She and son-in-law Paul McNicol are Yellow Cote loyals. Bob Lindsay graduated from East Woods in the '60s and his fourth son to attend the school is in sixth grade. Bob and choreographing wife Terry begin working on this production every year in November. Cove Neck Mayor Tom Zoller, also an East Woods grad, and wife Kathy return year after year to build the sets even though their children are away at prep school. From Wall Street deal makers to Oyster Bay homemakers the pool of talent from within the East Woods community is truly amazing."

While the crowd has grown accustomed to seeing local residents Eric Best, Bill Sheeline (class of '69), Dave Townsend, Jennifer Horton, Christopher Hogg, Doug Brown and Suzanne Garver in leading roles, this year everyone is a star. New to the cast this year is Oyster Bay's Blake Hansen, a '70 grad. But the show really couldn't go on without the creative force behind all 10 productions, the incredibly talented musical director John Schwartzberg. (By day he is a successful Oyster Bay-based software developer.)

Producer Rosemary Miller says, "We know the show's a hit when the audience is filled with children and you don't hear a peep out of them. They really love seeing their parents, teachers and especially the headmaster, on stage. "Cavalcade of Fun" will appeal to kids of all ages and we're looking forward to two sell-out performances. "

Performances are Friday and Saturday, Feb. 6 and 7, with the curtain at 8 p.m. On Friday children are welcome and tickets are $10. Saturday is adults only, so enjoy the show, complete with wine and cheese, for $20 per person.

Proceeds will benefit the School's Drama Department. For additional information or to purchase tickets, call (516) 922-4400.
