How Well Do You Know the Area? Do you know where this week's picture was taken? If you do, call the Enterprise-Pilot at 747-8282 and let us know. If you have a picture that you think might be interesting for others to guess, drop it off in our box at Pleasant Valley Gallery & Gifts, 101 South Street, Oyster Bay.

Jennifer Capozzoli said, "It's Pearl Street. On the left side is the State Farm Insurance building."

It is a landmark building and owned by John Specce.

Fran Raymond said, "It's Pearl Street. When I was a kid I used to sleigh ride on that street."

Anthony Visslailli called and said he would be ashamed if he didn't answer the mystery picture. "I've lived on that block for over 50 years and was born one block away from Pearl Street, on White Street. I went to Oyster Bay High School and passed the corner for 12 years. Then I went to St. Dominic's to take graduate courses and played basketball for a year.

"People tell me I should go to Florida, but this is a great town in summer and winter. I went to Maine for about 20 years and went to Aruba in December for a couple of weeks, but Oyster Bay is Maine and Aruba. It's a great town and the newspapers cover it so well."

He said of the picture in the Enterprise Pilot, "I think my car's parked at the top of the road. It's amazing, so many people come up here and ask if these houses are for sale. It's so convenient, you can walk to the churches and schools."

Mr. Visslailli said, as a side job, he often drove people to the airports. "One of them, Franz Schager had an estate on Mill River Road, he was a great man, with a wife and three lovely daughters. He had a title when he came to this country and I never forgot, he wrote an article saying the street must have been named after Tony Visslailli, that 'he's the real pearl.'"

Mr. Visslailli appreciates his location and his neighbors. So close to the First Presbyterian Church and has known all the pastors of that church including the now famous Barbara Ernst Prey. "She's a great gal and her husband is great too," said Mr. Visslailli. His daughter lives in Locust Valley with her three sons.

Billy Minicozzi guessed the mystery picture was taken in the vicinity of the Oyster Bay High School. He was happy to say he had his copy of the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue, their 40th anniversary issue, he said. On a sports note, he said, "The Yankees got the best player in baseball, Alex Rodriguez from Texas who will play in the infield."

We received two e-mail responses:

Leven Ashby asked of the Feb. 13 mystery picture, "Can it be the corner of East Main St., and Anstice Street?" The correct answer came from Tony Pilla, now of Anniston, Alabama, who sent an e-mail saying, "It looks like the intersection of West Main Street and Anstice Street, across from the library."

Joe Williams wrote, "It's Joe Williams again. I'd like to take a guess at the mystery picture for Feb. 19. The picture looks like it's taken from in front of the Oyster Bay Library and those people walking are students leaving OBHS for lunch."

[We love the romance of the answer. He must remember when the high school students were allowed to leave the campus and have lunch downtown. We are not sure what was happening in the photograph. Maybe someone else remembers. We believe it was actually the day of the groundbreaking of the addition to the library.]
