Charles D. Thompson, 73, of Locust Valley, died on March 8, 2004, as a result of an illness which he fought valiantly for several years. A civic leader and enlightened citizen, Charlie graduated from Greenvale School, the Middlesex School in Massachusetts and Harvard University. After retirement from positions in university administration at Columbia, Charlie immersed himself in community affairs. He became president of the board of trustees at the Locust Valley Library and president of the Oyster Bay Historical Society.

Charlie's landmark house and well-maintained property have enhanced the appearance of Locust Valley for many years. Charlie was admired and loved by many for his dignity, grace and intelligence. He will be missed by many of his friends and acquaintances. Survivors include his brother Henry of Oyster Bay Cove; his sisters, Mary Dwyer of Hobe Sound, FL, and Beatrice Guthrie of Stonington, CT; and many nieces and nephews. Arrangements were made by the Dodge-Thomas Funeral Home, Glen Cove. Service April 17 at 11 a.m. at Christ Church, Oyster Bay. Donations may be made to the Endowment Fund of the Locust Valley Library, the Oyster Bay Historical Society or Christ Church of Oyster Bay.

Rosemary V. O'Kane, of East Norwich, died on March 17, 2004. Wife of the late Hugh Sr. Mother of Hugh (Patricia), Kevin (Margaret), Rosemary Patricia Kelly (Thomas) and the late Denis (Patricia). Grandmother of 14. Arrangements were made by the Francis P. DeVine Funeral Home, Oyster Bay. Funeral Mass at St. Dominic RC Chapel. Interment Locust Valley Cemetery. Donations may be made to Cold Spring Harbor Research Labs, 1 Bungtown Rd., Cold Spring Harbor, NY 11724.

Mary A. Kuchta, 85, of Oyster Bay, died on March 22, 2004 after a long illness. Wife of the late Walter J. Sister of William S. Kicinski (Belle). Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Arrangements were made by the Oyster Bay Funeral Home. Funeral Mass at St. Dominic RC Chapel. Interment St. Patrick's Cemetery, Upper Brookville.
