How Well Do You Know the Area? Do you know where this week's picture was taken? If you do, call the Enterprise-Pilot at 747-8282 and let us know. If you have a picture that you think might be interesting for others to guess, drop it off in our box at Pleasant Valley Gallery & Gifts, 101 South Street, Oyster Bay.

Tricia Presta, daughter of Jerry Presta, the advisor of the East Norwich Junior Firefighters said she recognized the Oyster Bay Fire Company location on South Street.

Nancy Butler, said the mystery picture "Is the firehouse memorial for the Oyster Bay Fire Company No. 1. Right?" Right!

Jack Hutchison said, "It's the monument on southeast corner of Oyster Bay Fire Company 1 building. They constructed the new building this past year and in front is the place where they took down the house that was there. The firemen park in that lot." The house had been the location of South Street Service.

Steven Disbrow called from St. James and said, "It's the firehouse's little garden. I think there is a plaque on the bell which I think was given by Mr. Hornosky."

An e-mail from "hotpotato" said, "Hello, I am in Medina, WA, just outside of Seattle...reading the paper. The picture is of course looking north on East Main Street from in front of Atlantic Steamer Fire Department.

"It also made me crave a "slice" from Nino's!"

Pauline Seidl, administrative assistant at Jaymar Marketing, Inc. at 189 South Street said, "This week's mystery picture is the flag pole and memorial plaque in front of the Oyster Bay Fire House No. 1. I work right across the street at the corner of South and Irving (the house with the wooden steps)! I look out at that every day. The picture was just taken this past week because the house next door to the firehouse was just taken down. It was the VCR repair/water district temporary location."

Now, that is really right!

An e-mail from Ralph Ceglia of Calabasas, California said, "The picture is of the main street taken from the firehouse, I believe the street is South Street but I'm not sure. I moved from Oyster Bay in 1980. The building in the far right upper is the retirement home, [senior center] and the bar - I forget the name. I think you can just see Nino's Pizza in the far left hand, my favorite pizza place."

FYI: Nino's is still the same!
