Long Island Championships sponsored by the Sagamore Rowing Association were held on Saturday, May 1 at Centre Island Beach in Bayville from 1 to 6 p.m.

It was a great way to enjoy the beginning of summer, watching young people compete in rowing on Oyster Bay Harbor.

The Crew Club of Oyster Bay has been having an active season including competing on April 10, in the Mercer Lake Sprints held in West Windsor, New Jersey and on April 17, as members took part in the Long Island Scholastic Regatta sponsored by the Sagamore Rowing Association and held in Meadow Lake, Queens.

Crew Club members attend high school in all areas of Long Island. Their towns include Massapequa, Massapequa Park, Muttontown, Huntington, Huntington Station, Jericho, Syosset, Sea Cliff, New Hyde Park, Woodbury, Manhasset, Locust Valley, East Norwich, Bayville and Oyster Bay.

The Crew Club of Oyster Bay is able to provide an opportunity to all students who have an interest in the art of rowing, but unable to fulfill their need within their high school athletic program. Every day after school, these students travel to the Western Waterfront of Oyster Bay for two and a half hours of practice. "Dedication and the love of rowing is what makes us unique from other rowing teams," said Donna Gaudio Marchetta, a loyal Crew Club mom.
