The Oyster Bay Chamber of Commerce's 5th Annual Village Artwalk will be featured at the next Passport weekend. The Artwalk will present sidewalk exhibits of photography, painting and artwork from 10 to 4 p.m. on July 24 (rain date of July 25). Other activities July 24-25 include Raynham Hall Museum's "Christmas in July" - self-guided tours about the evolution of holiday traditions in America, call the museum at 922-6808. The Oyster Bay Historical Society - Earle Wightman House Museum presents "Hands-on-History: Fashion in Colonial America" where visitors are encouraged to try on reproductions of the fashions worn in the 18th century, call the society at 922-5032. The Theodore Roosevelt Sanctuary and Audubon Center will conduct nature presentations of their resident hawks, owls, reptiles and mammals at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., call the sanctuary at 922-3200. The Waterfront Center will host scenic boat rides in Oyster Bay Harbor, call the center at 922-7245 and Friends of the Arts presents the Benoit-Freeman Project concert at Planting Fields Arboretum at 8 p.m. July 24, call FOTA at 922-0061.
Sagamore Hill National Historic Site guided tours of the Theodore Roosevelt Home are available by reservation 10 to 4 p.m. both days. Gallery Talks at the Old Orchard Museum 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. will be offered on July 24 and a National Parks Interpreter will lead a village tour to "Walk in the Footsteps of Theodore Roosevelt" on July 25 at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Walking tours begin at the Moore Building, (Wild Honey restaurant) 1 East Main Street, call 922-4788.
The Rotary Club of Oyster Bay is once again sponsoring an old-fashioned trolley service on July 24 from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. that will travel a six mile loop from Theodore Roosevelt's Sagamore Hill to Planting Fields Arboretum State Historic Park, home of Friends of the Arts concerts with additional stops at the Theodore Roosevelt Sanctuary and Audubon Center, The Waterfront Center, Raynham Hall, Doubleday Babcock Senior Center and the Long Island Rail Road. On board the trolley, visitors will be greeted by John Mahoney, a Student Conservation Association intern at Sagamore Hill National Historic Site who will offer interpretation of Oyster Bay's rich history. The interpretive service is made possible by a grant from Ford Motor Company to promote alternative transportation in the National Parks. Major funding for Passport to Historic Oyster Bay has been provided by the National Endowment for the Arts.
