The parking problem in the hamlet of Oyster Bay has still not come to a successful solution. While there has been a campaign to try to get town employees not to park in the lot behind town hall and instead to park in Firemen's Field, that effort has failed. Town Supervisor John Venditto has indicated he will not push for that.
What might be a great solution is simply to remove the signs designating some spots for town employees. That would require no decision by the town supervisor to change what has long appeared to be a "grandfathered right" that goes along with some town positions.
If the signs just came down, the employees could still park wherever they want to, the only inconvenience would be at lunch time when they might chose to move their cars.
That would also allow empty spaces in those lines that are designated for town employees, to be used by the public if they were not filled.
Another solution would be to have a line of parking in the lot behind town hall to have spots designated for 15-minute parking. We have gone to the HBSC bank in Mineola (near our office) where there is a line of cars that are used for 15-minute parking. It is easier to bank in Mineola than Oyster Bay. The small area is in constant flux and everyone is happy.
It really is time for town hall to do something to help the commercial areas of the hamlet. If it is true that Oyster Bay is the flagship of the town, then please Mr. Supervisor, please do something to show faith in the future of the hamlet.
