How Well Do You Know the Area? Do you know where this week's picture was taken? If you do, call the Enterprise-Pilot at 747-8282 and let us know. If you have a picture that you think might be interesting for others to guess, drop it off in our box at Pleasant Valley Gallery & Gifts, 101 South Street, Oyster Bay.

Jennifer Capozzoli aced the answer. She recognized the Jakobson Shipyard pier at the Western Waterfront and knew the buckets contained clams bring bred in them. She said she knew because her dad, Tony, works on the bay.

Uwe Dielewicz said, "That is the pier from the Jakobson Shipyard. On the other side is the lightship Nantucket. I assume the picture is of breeding oysters or clams. I go there all the time and I've seen the spot. I ride my bike there," he said.

Pierre Brandt recognized the containers as the clam farm at the western waterfront that was started by the baymen.

We received a voice mail answer from a current resident of Seattle Washington to identify the How Well Do You Know the Area? picture. He said, "The picture of the tubs in some water are located across the pier from the Nantucket lightship at the WaterFront Center in Oyster Bay. My brother and I are former residents of Oyster Bay and grew up there. We had our families down on the dock there and wanted to identify it. The Perkins and Robinson family scattered as far as Seattle and Connecticut and are former residents of the area."

Billy Minicozzi said the mystery picture was of oil drums in Oyster Bay harbor, which was an interesting guess. He also congratulated Dave Ellison, a Bayville Fireman for becoming a New York City firefighter.

While we were on vacation there were several e-mail answers. One was from Jessica Guevara, Oyster Bay who identified the Aug. 5 mystery picture correctly as "the ceiling in the Oyster Bay Post Office." Interestingly, that work was done as part of the Works Project Administration program when President Franklin Delano Roosevelt was in office. An exhibit of that work is currently at the Nassau County Museum of Fine Art, and the post office work is mentioned in their exhibit catalogue.

"The mystery picture for July 29 is the playground of the Wesley Nursery School in East Norwich and the Aug. 5 picture was the Oyster Bay Post Office," said Terry McDonald.

"Yes, I know the answer from July 29. It's the pre-school at United Methodist Church in East Norwich," said Linda Placella.

Thank you each and every one for knowing the Oyster Bay area so well!
