What keeps Friends of the Bay's volunteers coming back? Well, I did a brief interview with one of our dedicated volunteers who has been with Friends of the Bay for over a year. Hank Kasven, a Syosset resident, took a moment to discuss with me why he continues volunteering with Friends of the Bay.

Q: What drives you as a volunteer?

A: I enjoy being out on the bay.

Q: Why do you think water quality monitoring is so important?

A: It is important because it keeps our local people abreast of the quality of the water and allows them to make judgments as to the recreational safety of the water.

Q: What would you say to newcomers who are interested in getting involved with water quality monitoring?

A: Absolutely. Do it. It's a good way to spend a morning with nice people.

Hank Kasven remains Friends of the Bay's steadfast captain. He is always ready to help with a smile and keeps morale up with funny stories and comical jokes. Thanks, Hank for all of your dedication and support with Friends of the Bay.

You too can be a part of this vital program by signing up to join us aboard our 19' Carolina Skiff on Wednesday mornings. Please contact Friends of the Bay at 516-922-6666.
