Lydia C. Antetomaso died on October 4, 2004. A resident of Bayville, she was the loving wife of Anthony and the devoted mother of Anthony and Carol. She was the cherished grandmother of Grace.
Visiting was at the Francis P. DeVine Funeral Home, Inc. on Wednesday and Thursday, Oct. 6 and 7. A Funeral Mass was held on Friday, Oct. 8 at St. Gertrude's R.C. Church. The interment followed at Holy Rood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the American Cancer Society.
James Bates died on September 25, 2004. Mr. Bates was born on November 21, 1921 to Harold James Bates and Olga (nee Hendricks) Bates. Shortly after graduation Jim volunteered for the 5th Ranger Battalion of the U.S. Army and served in the D-Day invasion in Normandy. He was awarded the silver star and numerous purple heart medals. Jim returned to the United States following his time in the service, where he attended St. Lawrence University.
While attending college he met and married Jean Petersen of Bayville. Together they had son, Christopher. Upon graduation Jim joined the New York Telephone Company of Long Island and through a series of promotions he became the marketing supervisor of AT&T Group of NYC.
Jim moved to East Norwich in 1953, where he resided until is death. His wife Jean died in 1983. He married Pat Gurney, also of East Norwich in 1985, with whom he lived until her death in 1997. He was active in the Vestry of Christ Episcopal Church of Oyster Bay.
Jim was active in outdoor activities particularly fly fishing. He was also an avid painter and a member of the Surburban Art League.
Jim is survived by his son Chris Bates, and stepchildren Susan Guerrette, Steven and Scott Gurney. A cherished grandfather of Kyle Guerrette, George and Grennon Gurney.
A memorial service was held on Monday, September 27, 2004 at 11 a.m. at Christ Episcopal Church on East Main Street. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to a charity of your choice. Arrangements were entrusted to the Francis P. DeVine Funeral Home, Inc.
Anna Noto (nee Oddo) died on October 4, 2004 at the age of 90. She was a lifelong resident of Oyster Bay and the beloved wife of the late Joseph. She was the loving mother of Anna LoMonaco (Anthony), and Bill Noto (Judy). She was the cherished grandmother of Dominic LoMonaco (Liza), Laurie Ann Lumpkin (Alan), Joseph Noto (Debra), and Tracy Kata (Larry). She was the proud great grandmother of Thomas, Emily, Danny, Kimberly, Michael, Matthew, Dominic and David.
She was the dear sister-in-law of Mary Oddo and Josephine Oddo. She is also survived by loving relatives and friends. She was a devoted member of the Doubleday Babcock Seniors, Beechbrook Seniors and the Italian-American Citizens Club. Visiting was at the Oyster Bay Funeral Home on Wednesday and Thursday. A funeral Mass was held at St. Dominic R.C. Chapel, Oyster Bay on Friday, Oct. 8 at 9:30 a.m. The Interment was at Locust Valley Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 532 Broadhollow Road, Ste. 118, Melville, NY 11747 would be appreciated by the family.
