A phone call from Schenectady, New York came in with a great answer to the mystery picture in the Sept. 14 issue. "It's Council Rock on the Mill Pond where George Fox met with the Quakers," said Rich Reynolds, amateur historian who was born and raised in Glen Cove. He added, "It's a great little column you have there!"
"Thank you," we answered, grateful for his enthusiasm.
Another call came in, this time from a woman who said, "It's Kirby Lane that goes from Jericho Turnpike to 106. [That was the mystery picture answer for the week of Sept. 30. That correct answer is the Muttontown Preserve.] The woman also answered this week's mystery correctly. She said, "It's Council Rock in Oyster Bay." She is now a resident of Syosset but is a former Oyster Bay resident. She checks up on the mystery picture, "Just to keep me busy," said the shy [but welcome] responder.
Billy Minicozzi gave a good generalized location for the picture saying, "It looks like a big boulder rock along Mill Neck Road located in a wooded area. It's an old metal sign." On a sports note he was rooting for the Jets playing on the weekend against Buffalo. The Jets won in an exciting play at the end of the game.
Anita Zarbis, a senior financial consultant at North Fork Bank called to say, "I know that area. It is on Lake Avenue by the hill and the Mill Pond."
They are all great answers! Thank you each and every one!
