The fall soccer season is on their third week of play with the fourteen teams competing weekly throughout Long Island.
The Tornadoes - Continue their win by beating Garden City 4 to 1. The game was well played by all the girls, their continued hard work is paying off. The goals were scored by Erin Allen, Bridget Jansen, Katie O'Brien and Melissa Albanese. Great defense by Gabrielle Albanese, Madison Fressle, Kristie Kelly, Julia Cranz, Arden Etts, Marissa Matarese, the offense contributing to the goals were Allison Bliven, Erica Eisenberg.
The Wildcats played at home this weekend against Bayside Storm they are junior and senior boys playing in the fall high school league of Long Island Junior Soccer League. This is top level soccer at its best for Oyster Bay club. A spectacular play was witnessed in one corner kick in the first half where a Wildcat took a perfectly executed corner kick to the near post and his Wildcat teamate headed it perfectly to the top far post and the opponent's goalie stretched to his fullest to barely tip it over the goal. The spectators passing by are still talking about the spectacular play.
The Boys U 19 Wildcats improved their record to 1-1-1 after defeating the Bayside Storm 6-1. Excellent goal keeping by Mike Huebner kept us in the game early on. Brian Sheehy and Brian Witthuhn willingly switched positions and did an excellent job covering for our missing defensive backs. Scott Witthuhn had his usual superb performance at sweeper. Nick Chakiryan had a hat trick (three goals) and Eric Multer, Isaias Gomez and Brian Sheehy also scored a goal each. Fabian Santibanez was responsible for at least three assists and helped to set up multiple other opportunities. Our newest player, Luis Salinas made some notable contributions at mid-field in his first game.
All in all it was a very good soccer weekend in the Chakiryan household with the Avalanche, Wildcats and Blizzard all winning their games coach Chaciryan said.
The Hurricanes - also played at home against the Auburndale Daredevils. The Hurricanes are eighth grade girls playing their fifth year of travel. Even though the team has recently been restructured, they are beginning to play as a well seasoned team. With coach Albanese absent due to a conflict coaching the Tornadoes State Cup game in Kings Park at the same time, Coach Maria Albanese with the help of the Blizzards coach Randy Todd took over the team for a win. Meghan Bloom's hat trick and winning goal by Lucy Wallace sealed the win 4 to 3 for the Hurricanes. Nicolette Gotti had a tremendous game in midfield along with the unbeatable Molly Vogt at sweeper. Coach Sal Albanese, may be sent to more State Cup games in future weeks ahead.
The Blizzards - defeated The Massapequa All Stars 4-0 on Sunday 10/03.The Blizzards led at half time 1-0 on a goal by Monique Kelly. In the second half the Blizzards turned up the heat scoring 3 goals by Addie Reilly , Jocelyn Cisternas, and Brooke Bliven. Molly Kirkpatrick recorded her second shut out of the season. The Massapequa's midfielders were no match against the combination of Maria Moreno , Kelsey Todd , Alex Venuto and Rebecca Orlich.
The defensive core of Courtney Collins, Lex Pillari, Nicole Podpirka and Katie Bonilla were once again outstanding, Massapequa's attackers could not penetrate through them. On the offensive side of the field Maddie Howes and Stephanie Chakiryan kept the pressure on the oppositions goalie. The Blizzards have scored 7 of their 9 goals this season in the 2nd half , when their opponents are tiring The Blizzards pick up the pace ,they credit this to the off season vigorous strengthening and conditioning program designed by their new trainer Danny Leon , the former captain of The Long Island Rough Riders.
The Avalanche-Remain undefeated and in sole possession of first place in their division after defeating the Garden City Park Lady Liberty 2-1. Outstanding effort by Kat Fressel in goal, who had a shut out until the last 40 seconds of the game. Superb defensive effort by Alyssa Garcia, Natalie Flammia, Paige Arfman and Kerri Apicella. The first goal was scored by Meredith Mangiarotti on a shot from 30 yds. out which sailed over the keepers hands and the second was scored by Sarah Awad coming off a well placed corner kick by Meredith. Also contributing to our attack were Sabrina Layne, who often sacrificed her body in order to get the ball up-field to her teammates, and Josie Bechand who was playing in spite of a severely sprained ankle.
The Tsunamis- won their league game on Saturday 2-1 against the VOB bulldogs -- Wally gurziski was the game MVP. TheTsunami won their second round state cup 9-0 against the copeague challengers to move on to the third round of their state cup coach Heaney reported.
The Rockets win 4-1-The Rockets improved their divisional record to 3-0 with a hard earned victory over a very tough opponent, Albertson Killer Bees this week. All the boys played well together both offensively and defensively.
Luka Martinovic, Quinn Mcquade, Matthew Delrosso, Kevin Rubio, and Stephen Ello all anchored the offensive assault. Our fullbacks held them to one goal, thanks to A.J. Core(also part time goalie), Tyler Ozkan, Ryan Gouse, Chris Hoffmann, Alec Chiappone (also part time midfielder) and Jason Velasquez.
All reliable, Keegan Petersen best first team goalie east of Hawaii continues to sacrifice his body and soul for this team. we all appreciate it. Boys keep up the enthusiasm, you can see how your hard work in practice and games pays off! Coach Ozkan and Delrosso
The Eclipse - had a good game against North Shore. We lost 4-0 with that being the score after the first half. The girls came out fighting in the second half and passed well with several opportunites to score. The fact that the girls improved in the second half attests to their improving fitness as the season moves forward. Looking forward to next week's challenge.
The Mustangs have faced their first loss of the season, 3-1 to Garden City. But the boys still played as a team, like gentlemen, and got an on-the-job lesson in the value of staying in their field positions! It's a lesson they'll use well in their next outing! Special congratulations to Matthew Guttierrez who scored the Mustangs sole goal of the game. It was Matthew's second goal of the season, and that's why his teammates voted him Most Valuable Player! And the Mustangs say, wait until next week! From coach Carol Silva and Bob Reilly.
Titans: This weekend the Oyster Bay Titans had a full plate of competition. On Saturday they scrimmaged the U-14 Bayside Division 3 Stallions. Chris Murdock was strong in goal, and our boys rose to the challenge of the skilled Stallions.Strong play from taxi squad members Alex Geitz and Ben Horst coupled with our regulars of Thomas Trieber, Andy Rubio, Christian Petersen, Harrison Nicastro. Niklas & Eerik Helmick, Phillip Delakas. Thanks to Mo Heaney (U-12) and Willie Trieber (U-11) to show at the last minute to give us a fighting chance. A well fought scrimmage, but we fell 4 to 1. A fine goal by Thomas Treiber on a nice feed from Christian Petersen.
On Sunday the Titans played the 1st place Ellwood Fireballs, who had pummelled us in the Labor Day tournament 7 to 1. The Titans were primed for the rematch. The Titans played much better than the last meeting with Ellwood. Gavin Esernio had several great plays and Kabir Melwani keep the ball moving forward for the Titans attack. A close game with the Fireball winning 2 to 0. Coach Doug Petersen
