The U-10 girls team continues to win by beating Manhasset 6 to 0. The game was played at East Woods on Saturday morning, Oct. 16, with the Tornadoes taking the field and scoring 4 goals in the first half of play. Melissa Albanese started the shots by scoring the first two goals from outside the goalie box. Erin Allen and Katie O'Brien followed with the other two goals in the first half.

In the second half, Bridget Janset took a free kick blast outside the box over the goalie's head. The final goal was scored on high blast from the right side by Erica Eisenberg. Both the coach and her mom had just finished giving her instructions on how to take the shots from the right side, they were both amazed at how well she understood what they were talking about.

The shutout was recorded by Kristie Kelly and Madison Fressle on goal. Gabrielle Albanese took two long shots from midfield line barely missing the goal. Arden Etts, Julia Cranz, Allison Bliven and Marissa Materese contributed to the outstanding defense. To date the team has 3 wins and no losses with 18 goals scored with only one goal allowed in. Coach Albanese and Trainer Marcello Arango are very proud of the team's accomplishments.

The OBEN Riptide U10 Boys have a successful Columbus Day Tournament!

Playing on a beautiful sunny weekend across from Suffolk Community College in Brentwood, the Riptide came out pumped; out-scoring and out-maneuvering their first opponents in the five-game tournament. With goals by Quinn McQuade and Keyan Cody, the Riptide won their first game against Commack 3-1. The second game was equally well-played with goals by Ryan Sommi and Nick Gandolfo. Excellent forward push was added by Ian Bozsnyak and Andrew Asgeirsson. Defense was solid from Liam Gagliano, Brian Kowalczyk, Kyle Cartwright and Brian Levchuck. Goaltending was outstanding by Brian Slivonik and Dave Milano. Overall, a great tournament by an improving team, coaches Dave Levchuck and Asgeir Asgeirsson said. Thanks to Quinn McQuade, our guest player. Way to go, Riptide!

What a week the OBEN Soccer Boys U-11 Mustangs have just finished! They started off by taking first place in the Columbus Weekend Tournament in Northport. During the five games they played, the Mustangs used sheer hustle and determination to beat teams in higher divisions and to take it all.

Richie Barakat and Willie Treiber each scored 4 goals with grit and follow through. When he wasn't playing goalie, Henry Canales laced through the crowd to score 3. The Mustangs discovered a new goalie talent when Peri Ipiotis took over the gloves, but only after he scored on offense, first. The Mustangs were also thrilled to see old friends Thomas Regan and Alex Carchietta join them for the weekend, especially when Alex scored twice!

The beauty of the Mustangs is how well they play as a team. They proved no game is won without a strong offense and a powerful defense. Shane Reilly played the strongest game of his defensive career. Peter Flaskal was relentless on offense and defense, along with Steven Tortora, Kyle Guarini, Nick Gurzynski, Scott Jones, Matthew Gutierrez, Jake Horton and Jazz Themelis who singlehandedly robbed the opposition of at least one goal.

On Oct. 16 the Mustangs improved their regular season record to 3-1, beating the Garden City Wizardz (spelling is correct) at home. Then that night, they were invited to make an appearance in the Big East St. John's University mens game vs. Notre Dame. Those proud Mustangs were on the field for all the opening ceremonies. But minutes before the Mustangs' half-time exhibition game, the thunder and lightning washed them out! Nevertheless, the Mustangs were thrilled with their up-close-and-personal look at a college soccer field. For many of them, it won't be their last appearance on a college soccer field!
