We were beginning to worry whether anyone would identify the mystery picture when we received a call from Belle Santora of East Norwich. "I think the mystery picture is the two piles of oyster and clam shells on the beach next to the WaterFront Center," she said. She corrected the newspaper for recently saying she lived in Locust Valley. "I was born in Oyster Bay on Anstice Street and lived half of my life in Oyster Bay and half in East Norwich," she said. (We apologize, we were thinking of Beatrice Cardinale.)
The "Mystery Phantom" called on Monday morning to say, "That looks like the pile of clam and oysters near the WaterFront Center."
Billy Minicozzi made a guess that the pile in the mystery photo was of the Town of Oyster Bay's Lake Avenue location. On a sports note he said, "The Jets are winning, they are sky high!" He said, "The Bayville Fire Company just got a new tanker truck and it had its Wet Down ceremony about two weeks ago."
We received an e-mail from Tony Pilla of Anniston, Alabama with the correct answer to a recent mystery picture: "It looks like the entrance to Bayville Beach across from the concession stands and Tides Motel. The merry-go-round used to be on the right of the entrance!"
