Friends Academy varsity fall rowing completed its second season as an official varsity fall sport, after several years spent rowing as a club sport. The team, coached by Mike Wagner and Allison Doherty, received a total medal count of two gold, four silver and one bronze for the season. In addition, Friends Academy hosted its first local scrimmage with visiting crews from Nereid Boat Club of Rutherford, NJ.
The Men's Quad (Audie O'Connor, Matt Gross, Nichols Silbersack, Nate Klasss) won gold at the Kings Head Regatta and at the Long Island Frostbite Regatta.
The Women's Quad (Keegan Calligar, Sarah Klass, Lyndsey Kumar, Jenna McCann) placed third at the Kings Head Regatta and placed second at the Long Island Frostbite Regatta.
At the Long Island Frostbite Regatta, the Men's Singles placed second (Fabrizio Barbagelata) and third (Keith Forbes) out of five; the Women's Double (Keegan Calligar, Sarah Klass) placed second, and the Women's Single (Amanda Cupelli) also placed second.
The team also did a series of 6,000-meter erg tests on the rowing machines during the fall. All athletes exceeded a two percent improvement on their 6K erg times showing improved fitness. Audie O'Connor set a new team record for 6K for varsity men and Sarah Klass set a new team record for 6K for varsity women.
