Sagamore Rowing Association is hosting the Long Island Scholastic Championship Regatta on May 6 from 12:30 to 5 p.m. at Centre Island Beach in Bayville. This regatta is a series of 1500 meter sprint races differentiated by gender, size and rigging of the boat. Crews will be racing in Eights, Fours, Quads, Doubles, and Single Sculls.

The Scholastic Championship Regatta is organized and run by the Sagamore Rowing Association. Participants in this year's regatta are high school crew teams from communities around Long Island, including local high school crew programs who practice daily in Oyster Bay such as Our Lady of Mercy Academy, Friends Academy, and the Crew Club of Oyster Bay.

The Crew Club of Oyster Bay is a composite program organized by the Sagamore Rowing Association for students who attend high schools who do not yet have a crew program of their own. Rowers for the Crew Club of Oyster Bay attend Oyster Bay High School, St. Dominic's High School, Locust Valley High School, Syosset High School, Jericho High School and several others.

Competing crew teams from Huntington High School, Half Hollow Hills, St. Anthony's High School, and Manhasset High School will also be among the schools racing

Sagamore is pleased to announce that this year's Long Island Scholastic Championship Regatta is being sponsored by local businessman Alex Gallego of Ryan Beck & Co. Mr. Gallego is a local Oyster Bay resident who has made a donation to Sagamore to help underwrite the expense Sagamore incurs to run the Scholastic Championship Regatta. Mr. Gallego is an officer of the Oyster Bay Chamber of Commerce and donates generously to nonprofit organizations in our community. Sagamore is grateful to have Mr. Gallego and Ryan Beck & Co. on board to support this event.

Sagamore invites local residents and anyone interested in attending the regatta, which is free to the public. Since there will not be any food or beverages for sale during the regatta, spectators are encouraged to bring their own picnic.
