As we go to press, we are excited about Tuesday, July 11 when the residents of the Citizens for the Preservation of Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park met for the first time in public. They are advocates for open space and the preservation of Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park and feel that TR Park is not the appropriate location for a carousel.
Their intent was to show people how large the carousel will be as it is being proposed to the town. They marked out the 65 feet x 65 feet area for the building following a suggestion by committee member Carla Panetta. The building also has a walkway around it. Charles Doering was scheduled to hold up a large pole to demonstrate the height of the proposed building - 35 feet tall.
The aim is to demonstrate how much open space the carousel building will take away if it is built there, explained committee member Fran Leone.
We look forward to the July 20 issue of the newspaper to show you pictures of the event. If you are lucky, you were there to see for yourself. If not, we will show you photos of the meeting in the next issue of the Oyster Bay Enterprise Pilot. It should be noted, the group is not against a carousel - they are for open space that can be used by the public. If you would like to become a part of their group, please call 628-2293.
