For the month of December the halls of Oyster Bay High School carried the fragrance of gingerbread. All the seventh-grade students in Mrs. Antonia Woodman's Home and Career Skills classes were making gingerbread houses. This is a 20-year tradition here in Oyster Bay. This year was different. Five of the 124 houses made were sold to raise money for Relay For Life.
Each seventh-grader made a house for his or her family...wrapped as a gift. An extra house was designed and made by each of Mrs. Woodman's classes. These five special houses were auctioned to OBHS families and staff during the seventh and eighth Grade Winter Concert on Dec. 20.
Each class selected names for its houses. They were "Home for the Holidays," "Sweetheart Chalet," "A Long Island Christmas," "Holiday Castle," and "A Chocolate Country Holiday." Their sale raised $486.
This money will be given to the American Cancer Society this spring when fundraising starts for the Relay for Life. Relay For Life is an all-night event which will take place on June 6 at Memorial Field behind the Theodore Roosevelt Elementary School. Save the date!
