The 7th/8th grade Rough Riders won their season opener, 7 - 4, on Sunday, March 30, against a tough Jericho squad. Face offs were controlled by Charlie Schueler and Blake Meyer, 1 goal, throughout the game. Midfield was dominated by aggressive play from Kyle Cronauer, Zac Cangemi and Oliver Fornell.
The scoring came from a great team effort of defensive clears, heads up midfield play and capped off by an impressive display of stick handling by the attack led by Mike Maloney with 6 of the 7 goals scored. Zach Greenspan and Hammy Wallace moved the ball around the crease and was able with the help of the middies to keep the assists coming.
The defense led by Michael Ferris kept Jericho in check most of the game. Andre Flammia, Jacob Atherholt and Kyle McLaughlin shut down Jericho early on.
The Rough Riders take on Floral Park on Sunday April 6th, 8:30 am, at Farmingdale State College.
The Lady Rough Rider lacrosse teams kicked off their 2008 season with the 4th grade girls taking on a long time established Manhasset team on Sunday, March 30. The girls hung tough for most of the game getting goals from Dominique Matarese and Shelby Cook. Erin O'Hara, Kelly Walsh and Lauren Ruzzier played tough defense, while Haley Warshaw made some great stops in goal. Manhasset went onto win 7-3.
The 6th grade girl's team went up against a very tough Northport team. The game was back and forth for most of the game until Northport took over with 7 minutes to go and went onto win 16-10. The Lady Riders were led offensively by C.C. Cook (5 goals) and Hannah Kaiser (3 goals). Julia Lorusso and Destiny Martinez led the defense with some great stops. Beth Anne Gallagher stepped up for the Riders in goal.
The 4th grade boys Rough Rider lacrosse team kicked off their 2008 season on a cold Sunday morning, March 30, at 9 a.m. in Greenlawn taking on the Harborfields team. The boys welcomed their opponent to the Nassau County PAL league by dominating the game 6-2. The tough physical defensive play by Lawrence Galizia, Thomas Tritthart, Leo Barreto, Alec Sheeline, Anthony Naranjo and Sean Cronin kept Harborfields away from the goal for most of the game. The team was led on offense by middies Kyle Schindler, Logan Danenza, and Robert Howes aided by attacks Daniel Cutler, Thomas Lane, Ryan Maronak and Derek Chrisitan. Goals were scored by Steven Shoemaker, Kyle Schindler, Logan Danenza. Brian Gallgher made some great stops in goal the few times that Harborfields got past the Rough Rider defense.
