Alex Gallego shown with his trophy last year. He is eager to get back in the ring for this year's Fight for Charity.

The Long Island Fight For Charity, one of the most anticipated events of the year, will host a "Call for Boxers" Kick-off Cocktail Party at the Carlyle on the Green in Bethpage State Park on Tuesday, May 27, at 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Men and women are invited to volunteer to represent their organizations as boxers in the Sixth Annual Long Island Fight for Charity that will take place on Nov. 24, 2008.

Alex Gallego, of Stifel Niclaus, and the Oyster Bay Chamber of Commerce president; as well as Wally Mathews of Oyster Bay, a sports writer for Newsday, are planning to attend the "Call for Boxers" Kick-off Cocktail Party in hopes of taking part in the event again. Both participated last year. Mr. Gallego was boxing to benefit the Hispanic Cultural Center of Oyster Bay.

There is still time to submit an application to become a boxer. No boxing experience is necessary. Interested individuals need to complete an application, obtain medical clearance and make a commitment to train, attend events and raise funds. For more information on how you or your organization can participate or to get an application, go to www.lifightforcharity.com or call 870-1583. The deadline for application submissions is August 31, 2008.

"Our kick-off cocktail party promises to be an exciting event. Several hundred people are expected to attend to cheer on the brave individuals who have volunteered to be boxers at the event in November. The cocktail party will be the perfect backdrop for introducing and recognizing the people who will be making a significant commitment of time, money and sweat over the next five months," said Jamie Austin, of Austin Travel and Fight For Charity co-founder.

The 2008 Fight for Charity is attracting significant attention from Long Island's leading businesses. Over the last five years 470k has been raised. It is hoped that with the continued support from the local communities and businesses the Fight For Charity will be able to raise more money for local charities this year.
