Walking Tour

Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, 1 Bungtown Rd., Cold Spring Harbor, invites the community to a guided walking tour of its historic buildings and botanical landscape. The tour focuses on CSHL’s historic architecture and its Nobel Prize legacy and provides a peek into the cutting edge scientific research taking place. The tour will also cover the indoor and outdoor art works featured on the 117 acre shore-side campus. The tours are primarily outdoors and take place regardless of weather conditions. Areas include stairs and steep hills and are not recommended for people who have difficulty walking. Tours assemble at 10 a.m. in the Grace Auditorium lobby. Reservations are required at least seven days in advance and a minimum of 10 participants are required for each tour. There is a non-refundable tour fee of $5 per person that can be paid in advance or on arrival. Evening Star Quilters – A Harvest of Quilts VIII

Kyle’s Heroes Walk

Kyle’s Heroes walk for Down Syndrome Awareness was created to support the outstanding work and effort provided by the Association for Children with Down Syndrome Early Intervention services. The walk takes place at Theodore Roosevelt Park from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Adults $20; children 10 and up $10.

Mill Neck to Host Conference

Mill Neck Manor School will host a conference entitled No More Meltdowns: Handling Challenging Behaviors and Teaching Social Skills for 4410 and 4201 educators, all school districts and related agencies from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Deaf Education Center auditorium. Jed Baker, Ph.D., director of the Social Skills Training Project, will present how students on the autism spectrum often have difficulty regulating their feelings and interacting socially. Dr. Baker will discuss handling meltdowns and effective behavior plans, preventative measures and ways to reduce frustration and anxiety. In addition, motivational strategies, tips on teaching social skills, generalizing skills into natural settings and increasing acceptance and tolerance from peers will be covered. Information will be imparted though lecture, interactive exercises and video clips. The conference fee is $99 per person. Lunch and sign language interpreters will be provided.
