The Oyster Bay-East Norwich PTSA has refashioned its lavish annual event, A Taste of the Gold Coast, and brought it to a new venue, downtown Oyster Bay - for A Taste of the Town, on Thursday, May 15, from 7 to 11 p.m.
The Gold Coast committee felt it was time to shake things up.
“Each year we ask our merchants to donate to our event and they have done exactly that for the last 13 years,” said Diana Hauser, a PTSA board member. “This year we felt it was time to give back to them.”
A Taste of the Town will be a stroll through Oyster Bay, where restaurants and other merchants will offer food, wine, beer tastings, raffles and many other treats. Participating destinations include: Jack Halyards, Canterbury Ales, The Homestead, Oak Cliff Sailing Center, The Oyster Bay Brewery, Chrison & Bellina, The James Guy Shop, The Long Island Picture Frame and Art Gallery and an outdoor lounge provided by Dodds & Eder.
The goal is to bring 200 to 300 people into downtown for an evening stroll, or a trolley ride, while they enjoy a true taste of the town. The idea is to make Oyster Bay the venue while raising money for scholarship programs and high school enrichment including the College Awareness trips, Challenge Day and Cultural Arts Programs like Shakespeare Theater Day.
Special guest acoustic guitar great Dan Graziano will perform under the tent. Check in for the tour at Oakcliff Sailing Center (4 South St.) Enjoy a few fine tunes and hop on the trolley. Enjoy the tunes in the outdoor party lounge at Jack Halyards (62 South St.) while their chef showcases a sampling of grilled rodizio meats and all of the accompaniments. Then meet the brewers at The Oyster Bay Brewing Company (76 South St.) and taste the brew.
Visit the patio lounge out back at Chrison & Bellina (24 Audrey Ave.) and enjoy live music provided by Stevie Matthews and The Oyster Bay High School “Open-Mic Band” who are donating their time and talent.
Next, enjoy live music at Canterbury Ales (46 Audrey Ave.) Feast on their famous raw bar specialties including: really big prawns, chilled oysters and clams, oysters Rockefeller and Louisiana, Asian tuna-cucumber poppers and steak house sliders.....And at the bar, a very special guest bartender near and dear to many.
The James Guy Shop (77 South St.) will host the wine wall and offer fresh pizza from their pizza oven. The Long Island Picture Frame and Art Gallery (4 Audrey Ave.) will be pairing a Van Gogh Vodka tasting with the time-honored artistry of Vincent Van Gogh. Additionally, all in attendance will be eligible to win the raffle…a framed print of Van Gogh's Starry Night.
Dodds & Eder Lounge (221 South St.) will have a street-side fiesta of food and drinks. Delectable delights provided by many of the fine Oyster Bay and East Norwich eateries.
The evening ends at The Homestead (107 South St.) here. Have a tasting of Penne a la Vodka & Homestead Salad. Dive into desserts provided by the generous Oyster Bay and East Norwich eateries. End the night with our DJ, raffles, silent auctions and a chance to purchase stunning student art work.
