James Joseph Moore, Jr., 86, of West Hartford, CT, died peacefully on Dec. 7, surrounded by his loving family. Known affectionately as “The Chief” to all who loved him, he was a lifelong educator, beloved for his wry humor, quiet passions, graceful athleticism -- and, above all, for the remarkable toasts, graces, and speeches that marked every family gathering, causing everyone to reach for tissues when the familiar sheaf of yellow lined pages appeared.
Dr. Moore grew up in Oyster Bay and attended St. Dominic High School, where he was class president, editor of the school newspaper and star pitcher for the baseball team. He played semi-pro baseball after high school, and earned an invitation to try out for the Philadelphia Phillies, but opted instead to attend Manhattan College and pursue his dream of becoming an educator. Thereafter, he earned his master’s degree from Hofstra University, and his Ed.D from St. John’s University in 1967.
Karl J. Leupold, P. E., formerly of Locust Valley, died on Dec. 9, 2013 at the age of 74. Beloved husband of Nancy E. Loving father of Kristine Marino, Doreen Mitchell (Pierre), and Suzanne. Dear brother of Irene Boehmler (Walter) and Marion. Proud grandfather of Taylor, Jordan, Kendall, Benjamin, Charlie, and Katie. Also survived by three nieces and three nephews. After receiving his civil engineering degree from Duke University and serving in the U.S. Marine Corp as a captain of an engineering company, Karl worked as an engineer and assistant superintendent for Con Edison before joining the Town of Oyster Bay in 1967. He was a town engineer, followed by Superintendent of Engineering and Deputy Commissioner of Public Works. In 1990, he became Commissioner of Public Works for the Town of Oyster Bay and remained in that position until his retirement in September of 2002.
August A. Angerame died on Nov. 24, 2013, age 85, of Bayville. Beloved husband of the late Louise. Loving father of John (Regina), and the late August Rocco. Cherished grandfather of John USAF, and Nicholas. Proud great-grandfather of Dominic. Also survived by loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Decorated Korean War Veteran receiving many awards and honors for his service as a combat medic in the 68th AAA Gun Battalion.

Ken Carnevale, MD, a resident of Bayville and partner at Ophthalmic Consultants of Long Island (OCLI), passed away on Monday, Nov. 11, 2013 at the age of 44. Dr. Carnevale was known for his kindness, charisma and goodwill. A great family man who put his wife and children first, Dr. Carnevale will be sorely missed by his patients, colleagues and all those who knew him in the ophthalmology industry.
“Our hearts are heavy for this loss not only because Dr. Carnevale was such an integral part of the OCLI family, but also because his passing was so unexpected,” said Tom Burke, CEO of OCLI. “We not only grieve at the passing of such a tremendous individual but also for the loss his family suffers.”

On Oct. 25, 2013, Mary Coronesi Blackwell passed away on her 93rd birthday, after living almost all of her life in Oyster Bay. She is survived by two daughters, Georgia Sinnott and Francine Lewis; six grandchildren, Cheri Turner (Michael), Thomas Sinnott Jr. (Maureen), Sabrina Morenberg, Gabriel Brown, Taylor Lewis, and Hunter Lewis; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Alfred Coronesi, and numerous nieces and nephews. Burial was private.
She will be greatly missed by her family, loving friends, and numerous bingo buddies.
