Carl Bernard Larsen, a proud veteran of World War II, extraordinary husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend, passed away on October 8, 2010 in Annapolis, Maryland at the age of 85.
He grew up in Queens, lived for over 30 years in Bayville, a decade in Basye Virginia, and finally in Annapolis, Maryland home of the U.S. Naval Academy.
Sixty years ago he married the love of his life, Margaret Morris. His son Carl B. Larsen (Tulinda) now resides in Annapolis and his daughter Kim Larsen (Jim Etkin) now resides in Brooklyn. He was the treasured grandfather of Bryce Larsen, Jenny Larsen, and Abe Etkin. He served in the U.S. Navy as a Waterman First Class aboard the aircraft carrier USS Bon Homme Richard in the Pacific Ocean and was a member of the Fleet Reserve, Annapolis.
Chris Papargyriou (a.k.a. Chris Pappas), of Mill Neck, died on Nov. 23, 2010, at age 62, of Mill Neck. Husband of Katherine. Father of Christian Aris and Katherine Anne. Brother of the late Aris. Phyllis G. Salerno (nee Gentilcore), 88, a longtime resident of Oyster Bay, died peacefully on Nov. 23, 2010. Wife of the late Nicholas J. Mother of Robert J. (Karen), Kenneth J. (Patricia) and the late David P. (Annette). Grandmother of Lauren Kaplinski (Andrew), Gwen (J.T.), Trisha, Jacqueline, Thomas, Nicholas, Victoria and Alexandra. Great-grandmother of Severina. Sister of Jackie Gugliano, James Gentilcore (Eileen) and the late Carmella Iannicello. Also survived by nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Edna Aloisio, of Bayville, died on Nov. 20, 2010 at age 88. Mother of Lisa Aloisio (Jimmy Ritchie) and Tom (Fat Tom) Aloisio. Grandmother of Michael (Kristen), Kellie, Kimberly, and Jonathan. Captain William H. Sembler, of Glen Cove, formerly of Bayville, died on Nov. 11, 2010 at age 86. Husband of Florence for 59 years. Father of William, Richard, Frederick, Donna and the late Robert. Grandfather of eight. Great-grandfather of one. He was a WWII Merchant Marine veteran, a master mariner and a professor of marine transportation at SUNY Maritime College, Fort Schuyler for over 30 years. Visiting was at the Funeral Home of Dodge-Thomas, Glen Cove. Mass at St. Hyacinth RC Church, Glen Head. Interment St. John’s Cemetery, Queens.
