Joseph A. McLaughlin Jr., formerly of Oyster Bay and Locust Valley, died on Oct. 29, 2009 at the age of 89. Born in Brooklyn on Dec. 23, 1921, to Joseph A. and Helen (nee Burgtorf) McLaughlin. He was a graduate of Georgetown University and The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. Joseph served in the U.S. Army during WWII as a first lieutenant and was awarded the Bronze Star for his valor in Normandy on D-Day. He was the husband of the late Nancy Power McLaughlin.
During his career, he was a corporate executive at Nabisco, Borden and for Mobil Oil. Joe was a dedicated volunteer for the past 20 years at the Red Cross, Mrs. Jones Attic and at the North Shore INN soup kitchen in Glen Cove.
Mary Ann Pippin (nee Platt). Born in New York City, Mary Ann, 73, was raised in Bayville. A graduate of Oyster Bay High School Class of ‘53, Mary Ann attended Tusculum College in Greenville, TN, where she met and married her college sweetheart, Hal Pippin. They raised their family in St. Petersburg, FL, and she spent 26 years with the Pinellas County School System. Her beautiful smile, positive outlook and devotion to the students who crossed her path have left many saddened by her death on Oct, 17, 2009, from lymphoma. Mary Ann is survived by her husband Hal; daughter Sharon Cimarik (Dirk); son Craig; grandsons, Chris and Quinn; sister Dot Frederick of Bayville; brother Lou (Clem) Platt (Betsy) of Big Fork, MT; nieces, Pam Frederick (Charlie Stuard), Jen Santoro (Bill) and their families.

Anastasia (Agnes) Mastalerz (nee Pietrzak), of Glen Cove, formerly of Locust Valley, died on Oct. 12, 2009 in her 90th year. Wife of the late Stanley. Mother of Priscilla Meyers (John) and Paula Trembicki (Carl). Sister of Mary (Mae) Pietrzak, Betty Gesslein, Kathryn (Kelly) Horan and the Watka (Willy) Schoen, Stella Gregory, Theresa (Terry) Carll and Helen Sullivan. Grandmother of Kathleen Statler, Kenneth Trembicki, Karen Crowther and John H. Meyers Jr. Great-grandmother of Drew Cohen, Ashley Trembicki, Holly Crowther, Samantha Crowther and Kiana Trembicki. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Arrangements were made by the McLaughlin Kramer Megiel Funeral Home, Glen Cove. Funeral services were private.
Thomas Reardon, CIC, CPCU, died shortly after the 26th festival on October 21, 2009. His formal obituary from the DeVine Funeral Home sketches in his life. “He was the husband of Mary Ann. Past Grand Knight of Knights of Columbus Council #1206, President of the Oyster Bay Youth and Family Counseling Agency and Board Member Doubleday Babcock Senior Center, an active member of the Sagamore Rowing Association, and Past Board Member of the Nassau County Independent Insurance Agents Association.”
