Edward M. Fogarty, of Oyster Bay, died on Aug. 1, 2009. Beloved husband of Anne B. Devoted father of Edward Jr. (Lauren), John (Christine), Pat (Josie), Marianne, Christopher (Kelly), MaryEllen (Christian) Schwarzbek. He was predeceased by his daughter Maureen. Cherished grandfather of 14. Son of the late Patrick and Helen. Dear brother of Mary Woods, Patrick, Helen Donohue, Kathleen and the late Thomas. Dear brother-in-law of Peggy Fogarty and John (Lucille) and Joseph Luksic. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was a former partner of Fogarty & Fogarty, PC; formerly mayor, trustee, police commissioner and Village Planning Board member for the Village of Upper Brookville. He was a member of the First Parish Council of St. Dominic’s RC Church, member of numerous religious, civic, legal and other professional organizations.
The family will receive friends at the Francis P. DeVine Funeral Home, Oyster Bay. Funeral Mass at St. Dominic’s RC Chapel. Interment to follow Locust Valley Cemetery. Melford J. Placilla, 81, of Bayville, died on July 27, 2009. A Nassau County Police Sergeant for many years, he was a retired chief of the Cove Neck Police Dept., past president of Bayville Fire Company and a member of the Robert H. Spittel American Legion Post 1285.
Husband of the late Therese. Father of Melford (Kathleen), William (Debra), Charlotte and Timothy (Margaret). Grandfather of Christina Peller (Ryan), Kelly, Justin, Sarah Harris (Chris), Benjamin (Kelly), Mario Ransdell (Joel), Clint Edwards, Stephanie Lane, Caroline Lane, Kevin and Thomas. Great-grandfather of Brooke, Jack, Max, Hailey, Joel and Josh. Brother or Richard (Margie), Trudy and the late Donald, and Betty Horn. Also survived by nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
