Letter: Thanks for Success of Event

Friday, 02 July 2010 00:00

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who helped make the 48 hour event during the weekend of June 11-13 a huge success. In a short three weeks and with less than $1,000 we were able to transform the lower Audrey Ave. extension into a vision that we could all agree upon. I would like to first thank our board members and executive director for agreeing to take on such a huge undertaking. In addition, I’d like to thank Oyster Bay Chamber of Commerce, RR Museum, Town of Oyster Bay, Do Tank: Brooklyn and other community partners who took time out of their busy schedules to create a pedestrian mall, RR plaza, a pop up store and cafes during the 48 hour event. Without all of their hard work and effort, this visioning process would not have been possible. The steady flow of residents and visitors alike to this often quiet area of town was very encouraging and the feedback was extremely positive. We were able to prove that this part of town is the connection to our beloved waterfront and could be an economically, aesthetically pleasing viable part of the downtown.

Letter: An Accurate Rendition of the Spring Gala Concert

Friday, 02 July 2010 00:00

As a long time subscriber and admirer of your professionalism, I would like to take issue with you on one point in the June 17 editorial. Reporting on the highly successful gala which our music director put together and led on June 13, you noted “90 musicians and the church choir”. There were 93 musicians who performed under Michael Haigler’s inspired direction.

Letter: Bayville Trustee Carol A. Kennedy Retires

Friday, 25 June 2010 00:00

My term as trustee for the Inc. Village of Bayville will expire on July 5, 2010. After eight years of service to our community, I decided not to run for re-election.

Although not a very “political” person, I have always made decisions on behalf of the entire community. I based my decisions on what was the “right” thing to do, not the “politically” correct thing to do. I encourage all who have been elected now or in the future to do the same!

Editorial: The Hamlet of Oyster Bay Is the Place to Visit Weekends

Written by D.F. Karppi Friday, 18 June 2010 00:00
It was another busy weekend in Oyster Bay.

If you drove down to the hamlet you saw the area of the Audrey Avenue extension blocked off on Saturday, June 12, and Sunday, June 13, to create a pedestrian plaza. It was to give the community a chance to consider what could happen in that area in the future.

Rosemary Mavros Knows Oyster Bay

Rosemary Mavros identified the June 3 picture in the Enterprise Pilot as being taken at the end of South Street, past Fiddleheads; on the left hand side going down, it’s the old house. There are boats there, it is right next to Bay Marine, going down toward Commander, on the left hand side.”

Editorial: Invitation to Saratoga Associates Meeting June 30 at the Hoffman Center at 7:15 p.m.

Written by D.F. Karppi Friday, 11 June 2010 00:00

We really appreciated the letter to the editor from Mark Doxey. We appreciated his passion for the Muttontown Preserve and that he gave his personal remembrances of being there – showing how important it was to him growing up. It also gives an insight into the importance of the Muttontown Preserve to children today.
