While Charles Dolan wasn’t able to hold his annual Fourth of July fireworks this year, many country clubs did and as they lit up the sky, members inside and non-members outside enjoyed the treat.

John McEvoy of Scicom said, “I live in East Norwich and I watched the Pine Hollow Country Club fireworks and they were great,” he said. “We watched at a friends house.”

Brendan Rainey Knows Oyster Bay

Brendan Rainey called to say the mystery picture in the July 2 issue of the Enterprise Pilot was taken in Oyster Bay Harbor.

Arthur Leuteman of Syosset, who grew up in Oyster Bay said, nailing the location: “It is the big rock in Oyster Bay Harbor 300 to 400 yards west of Brick Yard Point.”

Thomas Power Knows Oyster Bay

Thomas Power of Oyster Bay identified the June 25 mystery picture saying, “It is on Spring Street and Audrey Avenue. It looks like a 1929 Model-T Ford. The picture is taken right near Town Hall and Café Al Dente.”

Marg Buffa of Bayville said, “I love the old car. The picture is taken on the corner right by town hall in Oyster Bay, by the gazebo and is the corner of Audrey and Spring. There is Café Al Dente and not far from it, the Bonanza stand, where we love to get our hot dogs and Italian ices. It’s a wonderful area to sit and enjoy.”

At the June 16 OB-EN board of education meeting Dr. Phyllis Harrington informed the audience that a case of Swine Flu was reported at the Vernon School and that the district took appropriate measures including notifying parents of what to do to prevent the spread of the disease. At the June 16 Oyster Bay-East Norwich school board meeting, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Phyllis Harrington announced that reports in the press that the district saved $45,000 didn’t give the administrators full credit for the scope of the story. It was much better than reported!


Editorial: Oyster Bay Hamlet: A Destination Location

Many people are working hard to make the hamlet of Oyster Bay a destination location and they are doing a great job. They are creating free events to bring people to the downtown area. On Sunday we visited the lovely brick patio behind Chrison & Bellina that was just revitalized. The flowing water fountain makes it a lovely space to stop and visit. There are some more ideas for the site being considered.

Bob Jackman Knows Oyster Bay

Bob Jackman called to identify the June 11 mystery picture. “It’s the garden outside of the Roosevelt Elementary School dedicated to my daughter Brooke. I want to thank the school district for taking such good care of the garden,” he said. The photograph was taken after the May 16 Brooke Jackman Run for Literacy. Mr. Jackman added, “I appreciate everything the community did for the 5K run. It was nice to see so many friends participating.”

It was a great weekend in Oyster Bay – June 6 and 7. The weather was just wonderful – the rain finally stopped – and everyone’s plans were successfully aided by the sun.

On Saturday, June 6 the Oyster Bay High School Lady Baymen Softball Team completed a two-game sweep of East Rockaway to clinch the Nassau County Class ‘C’ Championship. The Lady Baymen advanced to the Long Island Championship with a game against Port Jefferson at noon on Tuesday, June 9 at Mitchel Field.
